The International Judo Federation is saddened by the passing of Susan “Susie” Grace Moorshead, a much-loved member of the judo community and a tireless supporter of the sport. She passed away in October 2026.

Susie made an exceptional contribution to judo in Australia and across the world. A life member of Judo Victoria, she served as its secretary and treasurer and played a leading role in organising the first Victorian International Open Championships. She became well known for the care and flair with which she presented tournaments, helping make them memorable occasions for athletes and spectators alike.

Susie’s commitment extended well beyond competition. As Oceania Veterans Commissioner and a member of the IJF Veterans Commission, Susie championed veteran judoka and helped strengthen their place within the judo family. In recognition of her contribution to veterans’ judo worldwide, IJF President Mr Marius Vizer presented her with an IJF plaque at the IJF Veterans World Championships.

Susie was also the beloved owner of Caulfield Judo Club, where she created a welcoming environment for generations of athletes. Her warmth, encouragement and steady support helped students build confidence and learn the values of respect, resilience and community. Alongside her late husband, Arthur, she helped make the club a place where people of all ages felt at home.
